Over Thanksgiving break our family traveled to Turks and Caicos for a relaxing beach vacation. This was Israel’s first trip to the Turks, so we were all excited to experience it with him! You can see our original post about the Turks HERE. In that post Jared shared a lot of tips about booking your trip (flights, where to stay, what to bring, etc). Today I want to share some of the places we visited AND the restaurants we ate at.
The Views
First up. This view. Hands down the prettiest beach we have EVER been to. This time we stayed on Leeward Beach. We rented a house to share with some friends. Most of the beaches that we go to are not crowded at all. The area near The Beaches Resort does have more people on it than most, so we just tend to stay away from that area. However, there is a really good snorkeling spot there as well!
The kids love how calm and clear the water is in the ocean. They get to play, play, play all day long. We did bring floats, sand toys, activities to do, etc. because everything is so expensive once you arrive in the Turks.
Taylor Bay
One of the locals told us how to park and walk down to Taylor Bay. It was STUNNING. The water is so shallow and perfectly calm. If you have little ones, this is the perfect spot for you! You can find more info about Taylor Bay HERE!
Snorkeling Tour
When we brought Joelle to the Turks a few years ago we went on such a fun snorkeling tour. We just knew that we had to do it again, so we booked a private tour through Grace Bay Adventures! The tour took us to Iguana Island, looking for sand dollars and conch, and snorkeling with fish. We even saw several dolphins swimming on our way out! It was a BEAUTIFUL day. The kids found sooooo many sand dollars. Joelle actually made them into ornaments for her teachers this year.
The Food
Since we had a house with a kitchen, we ate breakfast and lunch at our place each day. This saves a lot of money in the long run (side-note: we brought a suitcase FULL of snacks and food to save money)! We do enjoy going out to eat when we are on vacation, so we try to always save that for dinner. I’m going to list out the restaurants that we have been to throughout all of our visits.
- Da Conch Shack: This restaurant is right on the beach and has a really pretty view.
- Mr. Grouper’s: We went there twice this time. It’s very casual and low-key… just like we like. Joelle loved their spicy wings! They have really yummy conch fritters.
- Somewhere Cafe: We ate here twice this time too! We loved their pork nachos and the scenery is beautiful!
- Pizza Pizza: Nice casual stop for some yummy pizza
We’ve also eaten at these restaurants, but they aren’t quite as casual and are a little more pricey:
- Mango Reef
- Coco Bistro
- Grace’s Cottage
- Kalooki’s
And we have yet to find a good dessert place. We’ve tried so many, but none of them are worth it (in my opinion). Other than that we just stayed around our beach and hung out all day long. It is the perfect place to relax, unplug, and play in the ocean.
