Now that we are back from our trip {and have wi-fi again} we can share pictures from our time spent in Kenya! For our first three nights we stayed at Saruni Samburu. Saruni Samburu is a lodge that overlooks Kalama Conservancy. We had beautiful views right from our back porch.
Honestly, we had no idea what to expect during our safari trips. We weren’t sure if we would spend hours in the car only to find a couple of animals. Well, we were SHOCKED! On our first drive we saw so many animals. It was incredible! Most of our drives during our trip to Samburu were through the Samburu National Reserve. We would ride around for as long as we wanted… normally 3-4 hours at a time. Every time we turned around we would see another animal. Our guide in Samburu was our favorite. He was a Samburu warrior that knew the land inside and out.
The elephants were definitely a highlight in Samburu. We watched herds of 30 elephants eat their way to the river. They were HUGE and always entertaining to watch!
We did have a couple of elephants that gave me a pretty good scare. One bull gave us a warning when we accidentally drove between him and a nearby herd. He shook his ears, trumpeted, and started running but quickly backed down when we moved out of the way! A few mamas got protective too, but our guide taught us how to act/react to show our respect and all was well!
But our favorite moment of the day was when we saw a leopard with her cub. They were absolutely gorgeous. The cub wrapped its tail around the mother and melted all of our hearts. At that point we had no clue how special it was to see a leopard. We did see one more in Samburu but no one could find them in the other places we stayed.
Did I mention that was all just in ONE DAY and in ONE PLACE?! So incredible!
Also, I did want to say that we used Extraordinary Journeys to help plan our safari trip. There are so many companies, accommodations, price points, things to do etc. But, we had a great experience with Extraordinary Journeys. Our trip was flawless and they had every single detail taken care of for us. I’ll be back soon with more pictures of our time in Samburu.
