Today was a busy, busy day. It was our first full day in Kenya. We got A LOT packed in… Giraffe Manor to feed the giraffes, local market to pick up fabric and souvenirs, visit to a zoo, lunch, tour of a beading factory, and baby elephant sanctuary! I would NEVER suggest anyone do that much in one day, but it was our only day in Nairobi. Also, we were trying to stay out and about so that we wouldn’t nap… this 8 hour time difference is not easy!
Giraffe Manor
Joelle kissed a giraffe! Israel had zero interest, ha!
It was beautiful! You can also stay in the hotel or go there for breakfast. The giraffes’ necks come through your breakfast area!
Local Shopping
Our guide took us to a shop where we picked up some really neat fabric (to make a family quilt), paintings, bracelets, toys, etc. Israel loved looking at all of the carved animals.
The Zoo
After the giraffes and shopping we went to a zoo where we saw snakes, tortoises, a cheetah, lions, and more! Joelle held a snake and then almost dropped it when it turned its face towards her!!
Elephant Sanctuary
Our last stop for the day was at an elephant sanctuary. They rescue orphaned baby elephants and raise them for a few years before they release them back into the wild. We were able to interact with the elephants for about an hour… the kids LOVED it!
We had a wonderful first day! Tomorrow we leave for the actual safari part of our trip. So far we have seen zebras, water buffalo, and a few other animals just out in the wild from our hotel room. Can’t wait to see what else is in store!
